Candy Canes - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
    1/2 c. light corn syrup
    1/2 c. water
    3/4 tsp. peppermint extract
    1 tsp. red food coloring
    2 c. sugar
Preparation
    Mix together cream of tartar, corn syrup, water and sugar. Stir over heat until sugar dissolves.
    Cook to 265\u00b0 (very hard ball stage).
    Remove from heat.
    Add peppermint.
    Divide mixture in half.
    Add food coloring to one part.
    Pour on greased platters.
    Pull each part separately into ropes.
    Twist red part around white part.
    Cut into 8-inch lengths.
    Form into candy canes.
