Amish Vanilla Pie - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
    1 Tbsp. flour
    1/4 c. dark corn syrup
    1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
    1 egg, beaten
    1 c. water
    1 c. unsifted flour
    1/2 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
    1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
    1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1/8 tsp. salt
    1/4 c. butter
    1 (9-inch) unbaked pie shell
Preparation
    Combine first 5 ingredients in a 2-quart saucepan.
    Slowly stir in water.
    Cook over medium heat, stirring until mixture comes to a boil.
    Let cool.
    Combine next 6 ingredients; mix well until crumbly.
    Pour cooled mixture into pie shell; top with crumbs.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 40 minutes or until golden brown.
    Makes 6 or 8 servings.
