Canadian War Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 Tbsp. shortening
    2 c. brown sugar
    1 tsp. nutmeg
    1 tsp. allspice
    1 tsp. ground cloves
    1 tsp. ground cinnamon
    1 box seeded raisins
    2 c. hot water
    4 c. plain flour
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1/2 c. hot water
Preparation
    Mix the first 8 ingredients; boil for 5 minutes.
    Let cool. Add plain flour.
    Add baking soda in hot water.
    Beat all ingredients until smooth.
    Bake in 4 (9-inch) cake pans at 325\u00b0, until done, for 35 to 40 minutes.
