Stone Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. pepper
    1/2 c. chopped onions
    1 c. sliced celery
    1 c. grated carrots
    2 c. cubed potatoes
    3/4 c. barley
    1 c. milk
    2 lb. beef (cross cut)
    8 c. water
Preparation
    In a large pot combine beef, water, salt and pepper; bring to a boil.
    Reduce heat; add the barley, celery, carrots, onions and potatoes.
    Simmer for two hours.
    After two hours stir in the milk and serve with bread.
    Serves 10 to 12.
