Blaukraut(German; Rotkraut - Red Cabbage) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 lb. red cabbage, shredded
    2 tart apples, shredded
    1/2 bay leaf
    1 tsp. salt
    4 cloves
    1/2 c. red wine vinegar
    1 Tbsp. shortening
    1 c. water
    1 tsp. sugar
    salt and pepper
Preparation
    Remove cabbage core.
    Put shredded cabbage, apples, bay leaf, salt and cloves into bowl.\tPour vinegar over it and mix well. Cover

    sit
    overnight.
    The
    next
    day,
    heat shortening in a large pot.
    Add the cabbage mixture, the water and sugar. Cook until tender.\tSeason with salt and pepper.
