Picnic Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients

1 c. dates
1 tsp. soda
1 1/4 c. boiling water
1 c. sugar
3/4 c. margarine
2 eggs
1 2/3 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1/2 c. chocolate chips

Preparation

Mix first two ingredients in boiling water and set aside until totally cool.
Mix together sugar, margarine, eggs, flour, salt and baking powder, then add to cooled date mixture.
Pour into greased and floured 9 x 13-inch pan.
On top of batter, sprinkle the brown sugar, nuts and chocolate chips.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 35 to 40 minutes.
