Old Virginia Applesauce Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. shortening
    2 c. sugar
    1 egg
    1 1/2 c. applesauce
    2 1/2 c. flour
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. spices (your preference, I use cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger)
    2 tsp. soda, dissolved in 1/2 c. boiling water
    1 c. raisins
    1/2 c. (or more) nuts
    1 Tbsp. lemon juice (optional)
Preparation
    Cream shortening.
    Add sugar gradually.
    Add beaten egg and applesauce.
    Sift flour before measuring.
    Use a little flour over raisins and nuts.
    Add spices and salt to remaining flour. Dissolve soda in boiling water and add alternately with the flour, adding raisins and nuts last.
    Pour into a floured and greased loaf pan or Bundt pan.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 1 hour.
