Refrigerator Rolls - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 cake yeast
    1/2 c. lukewarm water
    1/3 c. shortening
    1 c. warm water
    1 egg, slightly beaten
    1 1/2 tsp. salt
    4 c. flour
    melted butter
    1/3 c. sugar
Preparation
    Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup water; add sugar and 1 cup flour. Set aside for about 10 minutes to form a sponge.
    Melt shortening in 1 cup warm water; add egg and stir into sponge.
    Beat in salt sifted with 3 cups flour or enough to make a rather stiff dough. Knead until the dough feels elastic and transfer to a large greased bowl.
    Cover and let stand until double in bulk.
