Gingerbread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 c. sifted flour
    1 tsp. each: baking soda and ground ginger
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1/3 c. vegetable shortening
    1/2 c. sugar
    1 egg
    1/2 c. light molasses
    3/4 c. boiling water
Preparation
    Sift together flour, soda, ginger and salt.
    Cream shortening until fluffy.
    Add sugar gradually, beating well.
    Beat in egg; blend with molasses.
    Sift dry ingredients into mixture.
    Beat thoroughly; stir in water.
    Bake in greased and floured 8-inch square pan 40 minutes at 350\u00b0 or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
    Remove from pan and cool on rack.
