Date 'N Nut Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. chopped dates
    1 c. sugar
    1/2 c. shortening
    2 egg yolks
    1 c. chopped nuts
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 c. flour
    1 tsp. soda
    1/2 tsp. baking powder
    pinch of salt
    2 egg whites, beaten stiff
Preparation
    Cover chopped dates with 1 cup boiling water.
    Let stand 1 hour.
    Stir 3 times.
    In large bowl, mix sugar, shortening, egg yolks, nuts and vanilla.
    Add date mixture and stir well.
    Add flour, soda, baking powder and salt; mix well.
    Add beaten egg whites and fold in lightly.
    Pour batter into angel food cake pan, well-greased and floured.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 about 1 hour.
    Let stand in cake pan for 10 minutes.
    Turn out and finish cooling.
