Crowd-Pleasing Baked Beans - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 lb. dried Great Northern beans
    1 c. firmly packed brown sugar
    1/2 c. molasses
    1 Tbsp. plus 1 tsp. dry mustard
    1 Tbsp. salt
    1 large onion, chopped
    1 1/2 lb. slab bacon, cut into 1-inch squares
Preparation
    Sort and wash beans; place in a Dutch oven.
    Cover with water 2 inches above beans.
    Let soak overnight.
    Cover and bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer 45 minutes.
    Drain, reserving liquid. Add enough water to bean liquid to make 1 3/4 cups; set aside. Combine brown sugar, molasses, mustard and salt; stir well.
    Layer half of the beans, brown sugar mixture, onion and bacon in a 4 1/2-quart casserole.
    Top with remaining beans.
    Pour reserved bean liquid over top.
    Cover and bake at 300\u00b0 for 5 hours.
    Yields 20 to 22 servings.
