St. James Coffee Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 c. flour, sifted
    2 c. sugar
    1/2 tsp. cinnamon
    1/2 tsp. cloves
    1/2 tsp. nutmeg
    3/4 c. shortening
    2 c. buttermilk
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1 c. raisins
    1 c. walnuts, chopped
Preparation
    Sift flour, sugar and spices together.
    Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse corn meal.
    Reserve 1/2 cup of this mixture.
    Combine buttermilk and soda.
    Add to dry mixture in halves, beating thoroughly after each addition.
    Stir in raisins and nuts.
    Spread in greased and floured 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan. Sprinkle reserved crumbs over top.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 1 hour or until done.
