Flat Dumplings - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 c. flour
    1 egg, beaten
    3/4 c. milk
    1/4 c. butter
    1 tsp. salt
Preparation
    Sift flour into mixing bowl. Hollow out center; work shortening into flour in hollow. Mix together beaten egg, salt and milk and pour into hollow. Work in flour from edges until stiff dough is formed. Roll out on floured board until very thin. Cut into 1-inch strips and stretch while pulling off pieces about 1 1/2 or 2-inches long and drop into boiling broth. Keep boiling until tender.
