Robin'S Jewish Penicillin(Chicken Barley Soup) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 whole chicken
    5 carrots, sliced
    2 celery sticks
    1 large onion
    1 box barley
    2 to 3 cans chicken broth
    salt and coarse black pepper to taste (I like a lot of pepper)
Preparation
    Simmer chicken, sliced carrots, chopped celery and chopped onion in large pot with salt and pepper.
    As chicken is boiling, skim top with slotted spoon to remove unwanted fat.
    After chicken has simmered for about 1 hour, drain liquid and save.
    Allow chicken to cool and pull off bones.
