Ingredients

1/2 lb. dates
1 tsp. soda
1 c. boiling water
2 eggs
1 c. sugar
2 Tbsp. shortening
1/2 tsp. salt
2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 c. chopped nuts
Preparation

Combine dates, soda and boiling water and let cool.
Beat eggs, sugar, shortening, salt, flour and baking powder.
Combine with date mixture and fold in nuts.
Bake in a greased 9 x 13-inch pan at 325\u00b0 for 35 to 40 minutes.
