Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 qt. thinly sliced cucumbers
    4 medium size (thinly sliced) white onions
    3/4 c. salt
    2 c. water
    4 c. sugar
    2 Tbsp. celery seed
    2 Tbsp. mustard seed
    pickling spice (small amount)
    1 qt. vinegar
Preparation
    In earthenware pan, arrange cucumbers and onions in layers. Sprinkle each layer with salt.
    Cover with ice water and let stand 3 hours.
    Drain thoroughly.
