Miriam'S Tamale Pie - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 c. plain white cornmeal
4 c. water
1/2 c. chopped onion
1 can (2 c.) whole kernel corn with liquid
1 Tbsp. salt or to taste
1 c. grated Cheddar or American cheese (for topping)
1/2 tsp. salt
2 lb. ground beef
1/3 c. chopped green pepper
2 Tbsp. chili powder
1/2 c. tomato sauce
Preparation

Bring water to a hot boil and add the 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Slowly add the cornmeal and cook over low heat for about 5 minutes, stirring constantly. Using a spoon or spatula, line an 8-cup casserole which has been lightly greased with 2/3 of the hot cornmeal mush, bringing it up the side as far as it will reach. If mush is too thick to spread, add a little boiling water.
