German Sauerkraut - cooking recipe
Ingredients

3 lb. kraut (use either fresh or canned)
1/2 c. Crisco
1 large Granny Smith apple, chopped or sliced fine
1 medium to large onion, sliced paper-thin
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 Tbsp. salt
1 Tbsp. caraway seed
6 to 8 whole cloves
1 pt. boiling water
Preparation
-
Put all ingredients into a large pot with tight-fitting cover. Bring to boil and simmer 2 1/2 hours.
It does not have to boil, but should not come out of the cooking stage.
