Italian Cream Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    1 stick margarine
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 c. chopped pecans
    1 c. buttermilk
    2 c. coconut
    1 Tbsp. vanilla
    2 c. plain sifted flour
    1/2 c. vegetable shortening
    5 eggs, separated
    1 tsp. baking soda
Preparation
    Cream
    sugar
    and shortening together well.
    Add margarine and beat
    until
    fluffy.
    Add
    egg yolks, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
    Add vanilla and buttermilk alternating with sifted flour, salt and soda.
    Add coconut and pecans.
    Fold in
    beaten egg whites.
    Pour into 3 greased and floured cake pans. Bake in 350\u00b0 oven for 30 to 35 minutes.
