Chocolate Chip Date Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients

1 c. boiling water
1 c. cut-up dates
1 tsp. soda
3/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
dash of salt
1 3/4 c. flour
3/4 tsp. soda
1/3 c. sugar
1/2 c. nuts, chopped
1 c. chocolate chips

Preparation

Pour boiling water over dates.
Let cool slightly.
Add 1 teaspoon soda.
Cream shortening, 1 cup sugar and eggs.
Add salt, flour and 3/4 teaspoon soda; mix together.
Add date mixture.
