Brown Caramel - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 c. sugar
    3 Tbsp. Crisco
    5 Tbsp. margarine
    2 Tbsp. white Karo
    1/4 tsp. salt
    3/4 c. sweet milk
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Mix 2 1/2 cups sugar, Crisco, margarine, Karo, salt and milk in\tlarge
    saucepan.
    Stir until dissolved over low heat. Place 1/2 cup
    sugar
    in heavy pan and stir it until it browns and turns to\tsyrup.\tAdd 3/4 cup water to syrup and stir.
    It will lump, but keep
    on
    low heat until it all dissolves.
    Add to first mixture and
    cook
    until it forms a soft ball in cold water.
    Add vanilla, cool and beat well.
