Portuguese Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. onion, chopped
    6 cloves garlic, chopped or garlic powder
    10 c. beef stock
    1 head green cabbage, cored and chopped into medium pieces
    1/4 to 1/2 c. vinegar
    salt and pepper to taste
    6 Tbsp. oil
    1 lb. garlic flavored, smoked sausage, cut bite size
    1 (No. 303) can kidney beans with liquid
    12 small new potatoes, scrubbed and quartered
    1 (16 oz.) bottle ketchup
Preparation
    Saute onions and garlic in the oil; when the vegetables are just transparent, add sausage slices and brown lightly.
    Add beef stock and all other ingredients.
    Bring soup to a boil, stirring to keep the bottom of the pan from burning.
    Reduce heat.
    Allow to simmer for 35 to 45 minutes or longer if you like, stirring occasionally.
    Correct seasonings to taste.
