Layered Salad - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 head lettuce, cut up
    1 can water chestnuts, sliced
    1/2 c. celery, chopped
    1/2 c. green pepper, chopped
    1/2 c. sweet onion or green onion
    1 (10 oz.) pkg. frozen peas
    1 1/2 c. mayonnaise
    2 Tbsp. sugar
    4 oz. shredded cheese
    1/2 lb. fried and crumbled bacon
Preparation
    Layer first 6 ingredients as listed.
    Cook peas and cool.
    Mix together mayonnaise and sugar; spread over layers.
    Top with cheese and bacon.
    Cover and refrigerate overnight.
