Mom'S Layered Salad - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 head iceberg lettuce, shredded
    1/2 c. green pepper, finely chopped
    1/2 c. celery, chopped
    1/2 c. onion, chopped
    1 (10 oz.) pkg. frozen peas (uncooked; tiny peas preferably)
    2 c. plus mayonnaise or salad dressing
    1 Tbsp. sugar
    1 c. mild Cheddar cheese, shredded
    1 c. bacon bits (prefer fresh)
Preparation
    In large bowl place two layers each of lettuce, pepper, celery and onions.
    Top with layer of frozen peas.
    Cover completely with mayonnaise or salad dressing.
    Sprinkle with sugar, then add layer of cheese and top with bacon bits.
    Cover and refrigerate overnight.
    Serves 8 to 10.
