The Christ Child'S Birthday Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 1/3 c. flour, sifted
    1 tsp. soda
    1 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1 tsp. allspice
    1 tsp. nutmeg
    1 tsp. cloves
    1 c. shortening
    1 2/3 c. white sugar
    4 eggs
    1 c. black walnuts
    1 c. buttermilk
    1 c. seedless blackberry jam
Preparation
    Sift first 7 ingredients together twice and set aside.
    Cream in a large bowl the shortening and white sugar.
    Add eggs to sugar mixture.
    Sprinkle a small amount of dry ingredients over nuts. (This helps spread nuts more evenly through mixture.)
    Add alternately the dry ingredients and buttermilk to sugar mixture; blend thoroughly.
    Stir in jam and add black walnuts; mix well. Grease a 10-inch angel food pan.
    Line pan with waxed paper, then grease waxed paper.
    Pour batter into pan.
    Bake in preheated 350\u00b0 oven for 1 1/2 hours.
    Cool thoroughly before icing.
