Working Mother'S Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. chopped dates
    1 c. boiling water
    2/3 c. shortening
    1 c. sugar
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 eggs
    1 3/4 c. cake flour
    2 Tbsp. cocoa
    1 tsp. soda
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 pkg. (1 c.) chocolate bits
    1 c. walnuts
Preparation
    Combine
    dates and boiling water.
    Cool.
    Stir shortening
    to soften,
    gradually
    add
    sugar.
    Cream
    until fluffy. Blend
    in vanilla.
    Add
    2
    eggs,
    one at a time.
    Beat well. Sift
    together the
    cake flour, cocoa, soda and salt.
    Add to creamed mixture, alternating with date mixture.
    Spread in 9 x 13-inch pan (greased and floured).
    Sprinkle top with bits and walnuts.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 40 to 45 minutes.
    Cool in pan.
