Divinity - cooking recipe

Ingredients

1 c. light corn syrup
3 c. granulated sugar
1/2 c. water
1/4 tsp. salt
2 egg whites
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. chopped nuts or 3/4 c. candied cherries

Preparation

Combine sugar, syrup, water and salt in a 3-quart pan.
Cook to a hard ball stage (260\u00b0).
Beat egg whites in large mixing bowl until stiff.
Gradually beat in boiling syrup.
Add vanilla. Continue beating until mixture will hold its shape when dropped from spoon.
Add nuts or cherries.
Drop on wax paper from teaspoon.
