Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 qt. sliced cucumbers
    3 green peppers, sliced (2 1/2 c.)
    4 1/2 cloves garlic
    7 1/2 c. sugar
    2 1/4 tsp. turmeric
    3 Tbsp. mustard seed
    8 to 10 medium onions
    1/2 c. pickling salt
    4 1/2 c. vinegar
    2 1/2 tsp. celery seed
Preparation
    Combine cucumbers, onions, green peppers and whole garlic cloves.
    Add salt; cover with ice and mix thoroughly.
    Let stand 3 hours.
    Drain well; remove garlic.
    Combine remaining ingredients; pour over cucumber mixture.
    Bring to a boil.
    Fill hot jars; adjust lids.
    Process in boiling water bath for 5 minutes.
    Makes 12 pints.
