Molasses Stack Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. shortening
    1 c. molasses
    1/2 c. sugar
    1 c. buttermilk
    1 egg
    5 c. plain flour
    1 tsp. baking soda
    2 tsp. baking powder
    1/4 tsp. salt
    2 tsp. ginger
    1 tsp. allspice
    1 tsp. cinnamon
Preparation
    Heat shortening; add molasses, sugar and buttermilk.
    Cool and add egg (beaten).
    Sift all dry ingredients together.
    Add liquid mixture to make stiff dough.
    Divide into 8 even balls.
    Press into round cake pans and bake at 350\u00b0 for about 20 minutes.
    Stack with applesauce or apple butter.
