Fruit Square - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg
3/4 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 can pie filling
cinnamon and nutmeg (optional)
Preparation

Mix together shortening, sugar and egg.
Stir in buttermilk and vanilla.
Sift together and stir in flour, soda and salt.
Spread 1/2 the batter in a 9 x 13-inch greased pan.
Spread pie filling over batter.
If desired, sprinkle cinnamon and nutmeg over pie filling before adding top batter.
Spoon out remaining filling for easier spreading.
Bake at 375\u00b0 for 45 minutes.
When cool, frost with vanilla frosting, or serve with whipped cream or ice cream.
