Applesauce Cake - cooking recipe
Ingredients

2 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1/2 c. vegetable shortening
1 c. light brown sugar, firmly packed
1 egg
1 c. sweetened applesauce
1 1/2 tsp. grated lemon peel
3 Tbsp. vinegar
1 c. dark seedless raisins
Preparation

Sift together flour, baking soda, salt and spices.
Use a mixer to cream shortening in large bowl until soft.
Add sugar gradually, creaming until light and fluffy.
Beat in egg.
Stir together applesauce, lemon peel and vinegar.
Add alternately with dry ingredients to creamed mixture, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
Beat well after each addition.
Stir in raisins. Pour in greased and floured 8-inch square baking pan.
Bake in oven at 350\u00b0 for 55 minutes.
Cool in pan 10 minutes.
Remove from pan and cool on rack.
Serve with whipped cream if desired.
