Date Bars - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. sugar
    1 c. flour
    1 tsp. baking powder
    3 eggs, separated
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 lb. dates, stoned and cut
    1/2 c. nuts, cut
    1 Tbsp. milk
    1/2 tsp. salt
Preparation
    Sift dry ingredients together.
    Beat yolks until thick and lemon colored.
    Add vanilla.
    Add dry ingredients to egg yolks and mix thoroughly.
    Fold in stiffly beaten whites.
    Milk may be added; this facilitates mixing.
    Spread 1/2-inch thick in a greased and floured baking pan, 9 x 9-inch.
    Bake in a slow to moderate oven (325\u00b0) for 25 minutes.
    When cold, cut in strips and roll in powdered sugar.
    Makes 30 bars, 3 x 3/4 x 3/4-inch.
