Gingerbread - cooking recipe

2 c. sifted flour
2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 to 1 tsp. ginger
1/8 tsp. cloves
2/3 c. sugar
2/3 c. molasses (light or dark)
3/4 c. boiling water
3/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 c. shortening
2 medium eggs
Preparation

Sift together the dry ingredients.
Cream the shortening and sugar and beat in eggs one at a time.
Gradually add molasses, beating constantly.
Blend in dry ingredients using low speed on mixer.
Add water.
Mix until smooth.
Pour into well-greased and floured 8 or 9-inch square pan.
Bake in moderate oven (350\u00b0) for 35 to 45 minutes.
