Red Velvet Cake - cooking recipe

1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 oz. red food color
2 Tbsp. cocoa
2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vinegar
1 tsp. soda
2 tsp. vanilla
Preparation

Cream shortening and sugar.
Add eggs and beat well.
Mix cocoa and food color to make a paste.
Add to sugar and egg mixture.
Sift flour and salt; add alternately to creamed mixture with buttermilk.
Mix vinegar and soda; blend gently.
Add vanilla.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 30 minutes; cool before frosting.
