Lentil Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. lentils, rinse and pick over for stems, etc.
    3 qt. cold water
    1/2 lb. smoked ham from shank end or 1/2 lb. kielbasi
    1 small onion, diced
    1/2 c. diced celery
    12 thin slices garlic
    salt and pepper to taste
Preparation
    Rinse lentils. Put into cold water with all other ingredients and simmer for 2 hours until tender.
