Baked Lima Beans - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. dry lima beans (do not soak)
    1 lb. brown sugar
    1 lb. bacon
    1 small bottle ketchup
Preparation
    Cover beans with water and add a pinch of baking soda.
    Bring water to a boil and add 1 teaspoon shortening.
    Cook beans until medium soft (20 to 30 minutes).
    Fry the bacon partially to remove some of the fat; drain the beans, but save some of the juice in case the beans get dry during baking.
    Mix the ingredients together; cover and bake 2 hours at 325\u00b0.
