Mrs. J'S Baked Beans - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. beans (for baking; Great Northerns are good)
    1 medium onion, chopped
    water (to cover)
    1 tsp. salt
    2 Tbsp. or a little more molasses
    6 Tbsp. sugar (white and/or brown)
    1/4 lb. salt pork, cut into small squares
Preparation
    Pick over and wash beans.
    Simmer first three ingredients 1 1/2 to 2 hours until just tender, not mushy!
    Add water if necessary.
    Turn into 2-quart baking pan.
    Add next four ingredients.
    Bake in slow 300\u00b0 oven for 2 to 3 hours.
    Add water if necessary to keep beans moist while baking.
