Watermelon Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 qt. watermelon rind, sliced
    3 Tbsp. salt
    5 qt. water
    3 c. vinegar
    2 c. water
    5 c. sugar
    1 Tbsp. whole cloves
    3 sticks cinnamon
    1/4 c. maraschino cherries, cut in 1/2 slices
Preparation
    Peel green from watermelon rinds; soak in 4 quarts of water and salt for 24 hours.
    Drain.
    Cover melon slices with boiling water and boil 1 1/2 hours.
    Drain and put melon into ice water until thoroughly chilled.
    Drain.
