Queen Elizabeth Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. boiling water
    1 c. pitted dates, chopped
    1 tsp. soda
    1/4 c. butter or margarine
    1 c. sugar
    1 egg, beaten
    1 Tbsp. vanilla
    3 c. flour
    1 tsp. baking powder
    1/3 tsp. salt
    1/3 c. chopped nuts
Preparation
    Pour boiling water over dates and add soda; let set until cool.
    Cream butter or margarine; add sugar and stir until well mixed.
    Add beaten eggs and vanilla.
    Add sifted dry ingredients and nuts and mix well.
    Add the cooked dates and water.
    Bake in a greased 13 x 9 inch pan at 325\u00b0 for 35 minutes.
