Christmas Divinity - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    1/2 c. water
    1/2 c. white syrup
    2 egg whites
    1 tsp. vanilla
    3/4 c. pecans
    3/4 c. cherries
Preparation
    Combine sugar, water and syrup in a saucepan.
    Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until sugar dissolves.
    Cook over high heat, without stirring, until mix reaches 260\u00b0.
    Beat egg whites until they form stiff peaks.
    Pour hot sugar mix in a thin stream over egg whites, beating constantly at high speed.
    Add vanilla and continue beating until mixture holds its shape (5 to 10 minutes). Stir in pecans and/or cherries if desired.
    Drop by teaspoons. Yields 3 dozen.
