Spanish Rice - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. raw white rice, washed
    1 c. sliced, peeled onions
    2 Tbsp. butter, margarine or oil
    2 1/3 c. canned tomatoes
    1 1/8 tsp. salt
    3 Tbsp. diced green pepper
    2 whole cloves
    1 small bay leaf
    2 Tbsp. granulated sugar
Preparation
    Cook the rice until tender (about 45 minutes).
    Meanwhile, cook the sliced onions in the butter until tender.
    Add the remaining
    ingredients and simmer, uncovered, for 15 minutes. Remove bay leaf and cloves and add the rice.
    Turn into a greased 1-quart casserole.
    Bake in a moderately hot oven at 375\u00b0 for 30 minutes.
