Texas Hash - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. chopped onions
    2 Tbsp. shortening
    1 lb. ground beef
    1 c. chopped green pepper
    2 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    1 1/2 tsp. chili powder
    1/2 c. uncooked rice
    1 (12 oz.) pkg. frozen peas
    1 (No. 2) can tomatoes
Preparation
    Saute onions in shortening until brown.
    Add beef and brown. Stir in green pepper, salt, pepper, chili powder and rice.
    Place peas in center of mixture.
    Pour tomatoes over all.
    Cover; bring to boil.
    Reduce heat to simmer and cook 30 minutes.
    Serves 6.
