Layered Salad - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 head lettuce
    10 oz. frozen peas
    1 small onion
    1 small green pepper
    1 c. Miracle Whip
    4 Tbsp. sugar
    8 oz. shredded Cheddar cheese
    1 c. bacon bits or drained crumbled fried bacon
Preparation
    In a 9 x 13-inch dish spread cut-up lettuce.
    Cook peas very briefly (about 2 minutes after they come to a boil).
    Drain and cool in cold water.
    Drain when cool and sprinkle over lettuce. Mix Miracle Whip and sugar; spread over peas.
    Sprinkle on chopped onion and chopped pepper or these may be omitted.
    Sprinkle on cheese.
    Sprinkle on bacon or bits.
    Refrigerate at least 1 hour.
