Cowboy Bean Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. dry pinto beans
    2 to 3 qt. water
    1 onion, chopped
    1 or 2 cloves garlic, crushed
    1 Tbsp. chili powder (Grandma's, Gebhardt's)
    2 pieces lean slab bacon, chopped or left whole
    1 (4 oz.) can Ortega diced chilies
    salt to taste
    1 small can refried beans
Preparation
    Wash and soak
    beans
    overnight.
    Pour
    off
    liquid the next morning.
    Add water and simmer about 1 hour.
    Add all the rest, except the salt
    and
    refried
    beans.
    Simmer 2 hours or until tender.
    Add refried
    beans and salt to taste; simmer 15 minutes. Serve.
