Fried Green Tomatoes - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 to 4 large firm green tomatoes
    1/2 c. milk
    1/4 c. flour
    1 egg
    1/2 c. cornmeal
    shortening or oil
Preparation
    Slice tomatoes about 1/8 to 1/4-inch thick.
    Beat egg and milk in bowl; combine flour and cornmeal.
    Dip each slice individually in milk and egg mixture and then in flour and meal mixture.
    Have shortening about 1/2-inch deep in heavy skillet.
    When shortening is hot, place tomatoes in and fry until brown on both sides.
    Salt and pepper to taste.
