Ingredients

2 1/4 c. sugar
2 sticks plus 2 Tbsp. shortening
5 beaten eggs
6 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 Tbsp. vanilla
2 c. milk
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
Preparation

Cream together sugar, salt, shortening and vanilla.
Add gradually in small amounts a portion of the liquid alternately with the flour.
Add eggs and mix until smooth.
The sides of the bowl should be scraped down occasionally to insure a uniform batter. Pour into 9 x 13-inch greased pan.
