Our Favorite Bean Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. pinto beans
    ham bone or ham piece
    1 can tomatoes
    juice of lemon
    2 Tbsp. salt
    1 large onion, chopped
    1 tsp. chili powder
Preparation
    Wash beans.
    Place in large kettle.
    Cover with water 2 inches.
    Add 2 tablespoons salt.
    Soak overnight; drain in the morning.
    Add 2 quarts of water and ham bone or ham piece.
    Bring to boil.
    Cover and simmer for 3 hours.
    Add 1 large chopped onion and 1 can of tomatoes.
    Season with chili powder, juice of lemon, salt and pepper.
    Take out bone.
    Cut up meat and return pieces to soup.
    Simmer 1 hour or more.
    Good with tossed salad and crackers.
