Lasagna Italian Style - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 lb. sweet or hot Italian sausage (6 links)
3/4 lb. ground beef
1/2 c. onion, finely chopped
4 cloves garlic, crushed
2 1/2 Tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. basil leaves (dried)
1 tsp. fennel seed
1/2 tsp. pepper
1/2 c. fresh parsley, chopped
1 (2 lb. 3 oz.) can Italian style tomatoes (undrained)
2 (6 oz.) cans tomato paste
1 Tbsp. more salt
12 curly lasagna noodles (3/4 of 1 lb. pkg.)
1 (15 oz.) container Ricotta or cottage cheese
1 egg
1/2 tsp. more salt
1 lb. Mozzarella cheese, thinly sliced
3/4 c. Parmesan cheese, grated
Preparation

Remove sausage meat from outer casing; chop the meat.
In large Dutch oven, over medium heat, saute sausage, beef (break up beef with wooden spoon).
Add onion and garlic, stirring frequently, until well browned, about 20 minutes.
Add sugar, 1 teaspoon salt, the basil, fennel, pepper and half of the parsley; mix well.
Add tomatoes, tomato paste and 1/2 cup water, mashing tomatoes with wooden spoon.
Bring to boiling.
Reduce heat; simmer, covered, stirring occasionally, until thick, 1 1/2 hours.
