Virginia Chunk Sweet Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    cucumbers*
    powdered alum
    5 c. sugar
    1 Tbsp. celery seed
    2 c. salt to 1 gal. water
    6 c. vinegar
    1/3 c. pickling spices
    1 c. sugar
Preparation
    *Use 75 cucumbers, 4 or 5 inches long, or 2 gallons small cucumbers.
