Fried Green Tomatoes - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 c. cornmeal
    1 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. pepper
    garlic powder to taste
    3 medium sliced green tomatoes, cut 3/4-inch
    1/2 c. shortening
Preparation
    Salt and pepper tomato slices; dip in cornmeal.
    Heat about 1/2 cup shortening in skillet on top of stove until hot.
    Cook until golden brown on each side.
    Drain on paper towels and serve hot.
